A Course in Miracles: Lesson 309

Lesson 309

I will not fear to look within today.

“The step I take today, my Father, is my sure release from idle dreams of sin.  Your altar stands serene and undefiled.  It is the holy altar to my Self, and there I find my true Identity” (ACIM Lesson 309 2:1-3).

Throughout our Walk in Miracles we have been given the opportunity to walk within as deep as we were willing to go. Our level of readiness allowed us to shine light on those darkened spaces we created within our minds.  At first, sure, we probably wanted to run away.  A quote from Johann Wolfgang van Goethe says,

“Know thyself?  If I knew myself I would run away.”

At first glance of our inner world, it makes sense that one would want to run for the hills.  Until we corrected our misguided thinking, the way looked rather murky, leading to the authenticity of the words previously in Lesson 93, (Light and joy and peace abide in me,

“You think you are the home of evil, darkness and sin.  You think if anyone could see the truth about you he would be repelled, recoiling from you as if from a poisonous snake.  You think if what is true about you were reveled to you, you would be struck with horror so intense that you would rush to death by your own hand, living on after seeing this being impossible” (ACIM Lesson 93 1:1-3).

We see a similar quote today in Lesson 309,

“I fear to look within because I think I made another will that is not true, and made it real” (ACIM Lesson 309 1:5).

Step by step we have courageously looked within and have seen that the evil we thought existed was only a thin veil of illusion.  We have begun to see that there is nothing there to fear, only one thing to love, our Self.  With our awareness, the darkened thoughts of error have been brought to the Light. Thus, today, we witness more and more that, “Only love is real,” as we are met with our Eternal Innocence.

“Within me is the holiness of God.  Within me is the memory of Him” (ACIM Lesson 309 1:7-8).

To run away is to let fear win, and as the Second Coming is approaching, that is impossible.  Rather, we learn to walk with our fear.  We alter the words of Goethe slightly to, “Know thyself?  If I knew myself I would LOVE myself.”  That is power of going within.  It is the power to unleash the massive energy of limitless love that abides in you.  Fear not the enormity of YOU, rather live it and embrace it.  The only Way is the Inner Way.  Namaste.
