A Course in Miracles: Lesson 226

Lesson 226

My home awaits me.  I will hasten there.

“Father, my home awaits my glad return.  Your Arms are open and I hear Your Voice.  What need have I to linger in a place of vain desires and of shattered dreams, when Heaven can so easily be mine?” (ACIM Lesson 225 2:1-3)

Home is within.  It is less than a breath away and less than a thought away.  To recognize you are already there only requires a shift in perception, a miracle, as we have come to know it.  It is seeing love over fear; forgiveness over judgment; value over the valueless; Reality over illusions.  Home is a pause away: a pause to reflect and remember who you are in this instant: a pause to let your holiness reveal itself to you.

“If I so choose, I can depart this world entirely.  It is not death which makes this possible, but it is change of mind about the purpose of the world” (ACIM Lesson 225 1:1-2).

Why would we choose to value a mad world when Heaven is already ours?  This is a question we will ask ourselves many times until we make the final choice for Love and no longer desire to play with this question or the events from which it arises.  Soon, very soon, we will abandon this question, along with all others.  Yet, we will only abandon this inquiry when we no longer desire that which is valueless, when we fully experience that the world is not telling us what need or what we lack, but rather recognize that the purpose the world is to merely serve as the trigger for the remembrance and to serve as the playground on which the salvation of all will play out.  Thus, you hold on to the value, not the world.

We hold onto this world as we know it, because there is still something we are gaining from it.  Yes, we do gain something from choosing crazy.  It is subtle at this point, however, we must be honest with what we are getting from our lingering fear and suffering.  Perhaps in our suffering, we get the attention of those we love.  Perhaps, we believe we are only seen when we are going through some sort of trauma.  Perhaps, our bodies are addicted to the adrenaline and cortisol that is released from the engagement of our nervous system from heightened, perceived fearful, events that transpire throughout the day.  If we look at our choice for things that are valueless, whether that be material goods, fear, or suffering, we can see that letting go of that which is valueless can be like giving up sugar.  It can feel that jolting to the body and mind.  It can feel like giving up a long, painstaking habit.  But in this, we are not alone, nor is it as hard as the body and mind would make it out to be.  It is only a shift in perception.

As you sit in silence, listening for the Voice for God, ask Her to show you what you still value in this world above Heaven.  Notice throughout your day how She answers your request and shows you in plain sight.  In each moment of the day, remember to pause, breathe, ground in stillness, so that She can show you the miraculous way Home.  It is certain that in reading these words, you have already chosen Heaven, overall.  Yet notice those small moments where you still choose for that which has no value in Reality.

Recall from the Introduction in A Course in Miracles,

“The course does not aim at teaching the meaning of love, for that is beyond what can be taught.  It does aim, however, at removing the blocks to the awareness of love’s presence, which is your natural inheritance.  The opposite of love is fear, but what is all-encompassing can have no opposite.

This course can therefore be summed up very simply in this way:

Nothing real can be threatened.

Nothing unreal exists.

Herein lies the peace of God” (1:6-8 & 2:1-4).

Today, we know a home awaits us beyond the blocks we have created.  In stating that “Nothing unreal exists,” we are letting go of that which has no value and that which keeps us from recognizing that love has no opposite.  You are already Home.  There is no other place you could be.  Be still and know this is so.  Be still and know that You are the Light that lights Heaven.  Welcome Home, Dear One.  Welcome Home.  Namaste.
