A Course in Miracles: Lesson 162

Lesson 162

I am as God created me.

We return to a previous concept with new, fresh eyes.  This statement has been given to us throughout the Course with the idea that in the full acceptance of these words our journey is complete.  As we have advanced further in our lessons, we reflect on how these words have deepened in meaning and experience.  It is likened to reading the same book more than once.  Most likely after the first time through, one notices different aspects of a book that went unnoticed in the first passing and the phenomenon continues with each revisit in the future.  It is actually an interesting process and can be included in the ways in which we are able to witness and gauge our growth and evolvement.

We were first introduced to a similar concept in Lesson 67, “Love created me like Itself,” where we explored the various attributes we share in accordance with our Creator:  love, holy, kindness, perfection, etc.  Later, in Lesson 94 and Lesson 110, we were given the exact statement we see today, as we saw past all the attributes to the One Source, stating boldly, “I am as God created me.” The importance of this statement was highlighted in Lesson 110,

“For this one thought would be enough to save you and the world, if you believed that it is true” (ACIM Lesson 110 1:2).

“Today’s idea is therefore all you need to let complete correction heal your mind, and give you perfect vision that will heal all the mistakes that any mind has made at any time or place” (ACIM Lesson 110 2:1).

Vision and presence have been our goals since our last review period.  We have now journeyed through the clouds of choice, realizing there is only the choice for love, and witnessed the one energy of giving and receiving.  In addition, we have courageously stepped beyond our statements to the Presence that is our true Home where we are given the Sacred Sight of seeing the Light in all.  Thus, we welcome another visit with this all-encompassing statement, “I am as God created me,” as we incorporate our advanced vision and presence in our practice periods today.

This concept is worth repeating until it goes beyond feeling like “second nature.”  The goal for this statement is to become so fully integrated into our being that we live only as our intended, realized Selves.  In certain Buddhists tradition, this is considered one’s Buddha Nature; one’s true Self.  As we have learned in preceding lessons, one’s true Nature is in union with its Source.  It has never left its rightful place and has never lost its attributes of peace and love.  Thus, does this Self need do nothing but fully accept, allow, and release into the Truth that is true always.

“His dreams are happy and his rest secure, his safety certain and his body healed, because he sleeps and wakens with the truth before him always.  He will save the world, because he gives the world what he receives each time he practices the words of truth” (ACIM Lesson 162 3:3-4).

The repetition of this statement is to ensure our reality.  We are not the thoughts we think, we are not the roles we have pretended to play, and we are not here to merely survive in this mad world.  We are here to witness the world as a tool of remembrance, as the tool to help us awaken to our True Self, to our God Nature, in Her likeness.

Our Course work has led us through the darkened areas of the mind in order to see their lack in value and harmless nature.  We have had to journey through the dark night of the soul in order to realize that there was always a light on.  And that it is one that will never go out.

“These words dispel the night, and darkness is no more” (ACIM Lesson 162 6:4).

Revisit today’s statement as you would the second reading of a good book.  Let it guide you to those spaces that have become illuminated since our last visit.  In your practice periods, go right to the Presence within you that is as God created.  Connect to that eternal light that abides as You and let it carry you throughout the moments of your day.  As you witness your light, may you continue to see the shared light in all those around you.  This is how you extend the invitation of the Remembrance.  This is how you create real change in the world.  You extend the peace that is given you as you remember, “I am as God created me.”

Namaste.
