A Course in Miracles: Lesson 129

Lesson 129

Beyond this world there is a world I want.

It is easy to take Lesson 128, “The world I see holds nothing that I want,” and today’s follow-up lesson, as means to support a belief that there is nothing in this world worth experiencing anymore; that this world holds nothing for us so we might as well just live a boring old life, without joy or excitement.  These two lessons, and at this point, in general, in a spiritual journey, one can be led to spiritual boredom, thinking that because you have seen beyond the veil, everything else in the world is just ho-hum.  Per our discussion yesterday, this is not so.  We are not learning to turn our nose up to the world in spiritual piety nor point our noses down in apathy.  Our point is to shift our perception of the world, to create miracles, to see the world in all its wonderment, albeit with fresh eyes.

“Our emphasis is not on giving up the world, but on exchanging it for what is far more satisfying, filled with joy, and capable of offering you peace” (ACIM Lesson 129 1:3).

Our walk merely asks us to take a closer look at what we place value upon, to look at the energies we are really playing with in our lives, and to look at how we are spending our time.  Imagine when you were a child, on the verge of adolescence.  Do you recall the day you put down your dolls or G.I. Joes?  Did you agonize over them saying, “I must let them go. I must let them go.”  No, one day you just put them down.  You no longer saw the value and spending your time in that manner.  You didn’t lose anything but gained space for something new to come along as you went about your teenage years.

In this same example, imagine Your Inner Guidance asking you, “Do you desire to continue playing with the toys of this world?”  And in your free will, you may answer, “No, I am not ready.”  And you are in your perfection to do so and continue on.  Yet, because you are here, I will assume that you desire for something beyond the world that lies in front of you and that you are reaching a point where you are ready to put down the dolls and G.I. Joes.

Spiritual Guide, Jayem Hammer, channeled a teaching from Jeshua, in The Way of Mastery, entitled, Following The Thread Of Desire.  In this specific transmission there was an exercise given called, “What do I truly desire?” where Jeshua encouraged listeners to close their eyes and ask themselves this one question, “What do I truly want?”  For a few moments the participants are guided to let various images and ideas arise in their consciousness, without judgement, then pause, opening their eyes to write down all that they could remember.  Anything is permissible.  These steps are then repeated 6-7 times over a ten-minute period.  It is encouraged to do this 7 times, potentially over 7 days in a row, then review the items that came up, noticing any repeats or any connected threads.

If you do this exercise, you will come to find that at first you will have a nice worldly list of items that you desire:  new boat, trip to China, new outfit, promotion, etc.  But as the list goes on, the material items lose their fervor and you come to find that you start to list your desire for peace, to know God, to know truth, to know everlasting happiness, to fully awaken.  You start to recognize that beyond the world you think you want, there is a true desire for the world that is beyond.  That is the magic of the exercise, “What do I truly desire?”  As Jeshua states it, “Everything unlike love would come up for you release it.”  As we have seen from our practice periods yesterday, and will also today, that we come to understand that there is a whole new world that we do indeed desire.  The world where we claim the details of our Light and our Sonship.

“Is it a loss to find a world instead where losing is impossible; where love endures forever, hate cannot exist and vengeance has no meaning?  Is it loss to find all things you really want, and know they have no ending and they will remain exactly as you want them throughout time?  Yet even they will be exchanged at last for what we cannot speak of, for you go from there to where words fail entirely, into a silence where the language is unspoken and yet surely understood” (ACIM Lesson 129 3:1-3).

Today gives us the exciting glimpse at what lies beyond the world we see.  This is not to show us that one way is better than another.  It is to show us that there is only one way we can Be.  And if we are not That, we are merely pretending so.  No harm done, however in choosing to put down our old play toys, we are now free to graduate to play with our eternal gifts.  These gifts cannot be understood with the human mind or with the rest of the human faculty.  Our gifts may use the fives sense of the human body but their means lie beyond.

“And God Himself speaks to His Son, as His Son speaks to Him.  Their language has no words, for what They say cannot be symbolized.  Their knowledge is direct and wholly shared and wholly one.  How far away from this are you who stay bound to this world.  And yet how near are you, when you exchange it for the world you want” (ACIM Lesson 129 4:2-6).

We are being asked to claim the Queendom/Kingdom and our sovereign abilities that include our intuitiveness and innate psychic powers.  Yes, what you are capable of is beyond words, thoughts, and the traditional uses of the human form.  All of this is yours but you must first acknowledge the seed of desire that lies within you that whispers, “Beyond this world there is a world I want.”  You know you are capable of more, that is why you are here in the world, right now.  In a time when technology is so advanced, we are also coming to understand the magnitude of our consciousness that can mirror said technology.

There is a world beyond the one you see yet at the same time it is the one you do see.  It is a world full of joy, love, excitement, revelation, and inspiration.  It is a world you will participate in but not be owned by.  Thus, are we reminded of the words, “To be in the world but not of it.”  Your eyes may look upon the same flower that you saw before but now you will be looking at if from the inside out.  You will be guided by Your Voice know the flower as it truly is, as You truly are.

“Today the lights of Heaven bend to you, to shine upon your eyelids as you rest beyond the world of darkness.  Here is the light your eyes can not behold.  And yet your mind can see it plainly, and can understand” (ACIM Lesson 129 8:1-3).

I leave you today with a video created by The Journey of Purpose that highlights the words of spiritual explorer, Alan Watts.  Alan eloquently describes the soul’s journey and how one has come to this particular point in her life with the purpose to remember that she decided to play as if she wasn’t God.  Let these words highlight our Course lesson today and show you how a life lived claiming your Godliness is anything but boring and ho-hum.  Let them ignite in you the desire that you came here to stop pretending that you are not God.

Namaste.
