Lesson 125
In quiet I receive God’s Word today.
Today’s lesson is pure spiritual poetry, so eloquently put together through a tapestry of words inviting us to, “Be Still and Know That I Am God.” We are being directed to experience a time of such quiet and peace, the Godly Hour. The hour of true stillness in the world when there is no hustle and bustle, no rushing, no loud sirens, and no drama. It has the sense of a soft morning when you have woken before the world. Where there is a soft mist covering the land quieting all noise and where the sounds of the birds are few and far in between. Perhaps it is also like a snowy day, so quiet and still that all you hear is the gentle falling of snowflakes. Such is the stillness that already lies within us.
There is a beautiful excerpt from the book, The Impersonal Life, channeled in the early 1900’s by Joseph S. Benner that parallels perfectly with our walk in miracles today.
“Sit quietly in a relaxed position, and, when wholly at ease, let your mind take in the significance of these words:
“Be still!–and KNOW–I AM–God.”
Without thinking, allow this, My Divine Command, to penetrate deep into your Soul. Let whatever impressions that come to your mind enter at will–without effort or interference on your part. Note careful their import, for it is I, within, through these impressions, instructing you. Then, when somewhat of their vital significance begins to dawn upon your consciousness, speak these My Words slowly, imperatively, to ever cell of your body, to every faculty your mind, with all the conscious power you possess:–
“Be still!–and KNOW–I AM–God.”
…YOU,–when you have felt Me thus in such moments within, when you have tasted of My Power, hearkened to My Wisdom, and know the ecstasy of My all-embracing Love, –no disease can touch, no circumstance can weaken, no enemy can conquer you. For now you KNOW I AM within, and you always hereafter will turn to Me in your need, putting all your trust in Me and allowing Me to manifest My Will” (31 & 33-34).
Through the words of Benner and A Course in Miracles, we come to experience the God that is within us and that Is us. In both teachings the Voice for God urges us to know that this Voice is Us. It is not a separate Voice but a shared Voice and to hear such words as coming from Ourselves and not a God outside of us. This Essence of Who and What we are has never left us, nor waited for us, but continued to love and guide us. We will come to know that this still, quiet Voice from within has been comforting our soul since before time began and it is in our quiet time today that we recognize this Presence is not even a breath away.
“He speaks nearer than your heart to you. His Voice is closer than your hand. His Love is everything you are and that He is; the same as you, and you the same as He” (ACIM Lesson 125 7:2-4).
As you allow the Voice for God to speak through you during your quiet time today, listen with the purest of ears. Do not fall for tricks or charades nor go searching for Her as well. Come to decipher amid the mass of voices in your head for that One True Voice. Let your body also guide you as well. When you hear the Voice of God, your entire body relaxes and nothing but peace washes over you. It is like the serenity and peace of listening to snow fall as the cells of your body remembers the calling of its Source. On the other hand, if you feel any sense of contraction, let this be your clue that you are hearing the voice for ego. Also, if you feel any sense of confusion or judgment then that is the voice for ego. Remember, God only knows certainty and only knows Love. As you enter in the space of Divine Listening, the ego will tend to hijack various voices making us believe it is God when it is still ego. Thus, allow the body to be your guide as well: relaxation and expansion is of God, contraction and confusion is of ego.
Also, do not try to play games with this Voice. I once had a friend tell me, as he was starting to hear this Voice, that he asked God, “Could you please speak to me in German so I know it is You and not ego?” God’s reply was simple, “No, this will do you no good as the ego can speak German as well.” Thus we must learn to listen not only with our ears but also with our hearts for the Voice for God. As we have cultivated Sacred Sight, we now cultivate Sacred Hearing as we balance in a dimension where communication goes beyond our five senses. Yet since we are still in a body, God will present Herself in a manner in which this body can interpret, as You. Thus, listen for Your Voice as God is you and you are God. Begin to explore the manner in which your Union is communicated.
“It is your voice to which you listen as He speaks to you. It is your Word He speaks. It is the Word of freedom and of peace of unity of will and purpose, with no separation nor division in the single Mind of Father and Son. In quiet listen to your Self today, and let Him tell you God has never left His Son, and you have never left your Self” (ACIM Lesson 125 8:1-4).
God uses no gimmicks, games, or bamboozles. She is just pure Truth told to you by You. You are cultivating a skill that you have always had and that will lead you directly Home. As you come to the still place within today, you will experience how your journey will create a long-lasting peace that will ripple from you out into the world, thus claiming salvation for All.
“The world will change through you. No other means can save it, for God’s plan is simply this: The Son of God is free to save himself, given the Word of God to be his Guide, forever in his mind and at his side to lead him surely to his Father’s house by his own will, forever free as God’s. He is not led by force, but only love. He is not judged, but only sanctified” (ACIM Lesson 125 2:1-4).
You are who you have been waiting for. You are who the world has been waiting for. You are the Voice you are listening for. Go no further than a breath away to the power that lies within you, ever holding you, ever-loving you, ever guiding you. In quiet, listen to the poetry of your Heart that speaks to you and through you. “Be still!–and KNOW–I AM–God.”
Namaste.
