A Course in Miracles: Lesson 49

Lesson 49

God’s Voice speaks to me all through the day.

The experience had today will be different for each one of us.  It is a sacred day on our walk together.  We knowingly go into our practice periods to hear God’s Voice as She speaks to us in a way that only each one of us can experience for ourselves.  This soft, still, peaceful Voice can only be heard by You; can only be felt by You; can only be discovered by You.  Is this not sacred?  Is this not what you have been desiring, to know how this Voice communes with you?

Today you will identify the distinct difference between the Voice of God and the voice of ego.  As you walk in silence approaching God your Sacred Senses will be heightened illuminating the manner in which She communes with you.  Today’s experience can only be just that, experienced, and cannot be compared, as our communion with God is unique to our own journey.  That is why I say the Sacred Senses will be heightened.  As you approach God let go of what the world considers to be “hearing.”  I know of many who when they hear the Voice of God they hear music, or they see colors, or they smell something, or they get visions, or they feel something, or a combination of some sort, or a flat-out knowing that cannot be explained with human words.  And yes, of course, some do plainly hear a Voice.  Today is about exploring how you hear the Voice of God that speaks to you always.

“Try to identify with the part of your mind where stillness and peace reign forever (ACIM Lesson 49 2:5).”

It is as though we have reached the Emerald City to speak with the Wizard.  Yet there is no special Wizard to be reached.  There is only but a mirror sitting there behind the green curtain reminding you that you are the way Home; a way that you know for certain and for sure.

“The part that is listening to the Voice for God is calm, always at rest and wholly certain (ACIM Lesson 49 2:1).”

Calm, rest, and certain, can you imagine such?  Indeed they exist together when you hear the Voice of God.  That is why today may require a bit more retraining of the mind as we bypass all the hectic and maddening thoughts that crowd our small mind.  It is as though we are in the middle of a movie scene where we are in a busy airport and all the sudden everything slows down around us and everything gets quiet.  Everything around us fades away and we are left in a peaceful state among the busy world.  This feeling of time standing still and this sense of peace can feel foreign to the mind that is used to chasing frivolous thoughts.  What do you do when you do not have to chase anything anymore?  You commune with the Voice of God.

“Sink deep into the peace that waits for you beyond the frantic, riotous thoughts and sights and sounds of this insane world.  You do not live here.  We are trying to reach your real home.  We are trying to reach the place where you are truly welcome.  We are trying to reach God (ACIM Lesson 49 4:4-8).”

If we have learned anything from the Course thus far it is that effort is of the ego and calm, peace, and certainty are of the Voice for God.  But how you experience your particular message of peace is unique to you.  And finding that uniqueness about you can be a wonderful exploration as this is a Voice that has been patiently waiting for your attention.

“We will approach this happiest and holiest of thoughts with confidence, knowing that in doing so we are joining our will with the Will of God.  He wants you to hear His Voice.  He gave It to you to be heard (ACIM Lesson 49 3:3-4).”

Today we are comforted knowing that hearing the Voice of God is the Will of God.  It is not something given to us sparingly  but always and in all moments of our day.  If we but only we take a breath and listen.

In closing, I shower you with many blessings as you take time in silence to hear the Voice of God.  I honor the commitment you have made to this journey.  I honor the pure desire you have to commune with God.  The sacredness of your journey is so because of the sacredness of You:

“Be Still and Know That I AM.”

Namaste.
