Lesson 166
I am entrusted with the gifts of God.
Things always turn out okay. Haven’t we learned that over the years? Haven’t we offered those words of comfort to a loved one? It is because things do always turn out okay, maybe not as we had planned, but often better.
We are entrusted with the gifts of God. This is why there is never anything to worry about. This is why everything always turns out okay. Australians and New Zealanders are known for their living motto, “No worries.” In those countries you can count on hearing that phrase as much as you hear the words, “Hello” and “Goodbye.” In Swahili, they say, “Hakuna Matata.” Most may know that phrase from the 1994 animated Disney film, The Lion King. “Hakuna Matata” is a wonderful song from the sweet-hearted movie that not only has a good message for kids but for anyone of any age.
“Hakuna Matata! What a wonderful phrase
Hakuna Matata! Ain’t no passing craze
It means no worries for the rest of your days
It’s our problem-free philosophy
Hakuna Matata!”
What would life be like if we all lived by this “problem-free philosophy?” That is what our Course lesson invites us to do today; to trust the gifts that are already placed within us that are ready to be shared with the world. What we already need in this world to fulfill our purpose lies within us. We do not have to take any more special courses or lectures or tests. All we have to do is show up in each moment, free from our will, and willing to allow God’s Will to flow through us. We do not have to strive, only naturally thrive. What a philosophy!
Sometimes this way of being can seem like a leap. If you are stuck in any identity besides the one you share with God, it can seem like quite the distance. I have heard many times, “that the greatest distance is the one from your head to your heart.” Yet, it is merely a breath away. A pause away. A moment of “letting go” away.
Spiritual teacher Adhyashanti wrote a book entitled, Falling Into Grace. I have always loved the name of that book. I believe it says it all. If you have ever heard Adhya speak, he often says, while opening his arms as his body sinks back effortlessly into his chair, “Just fall into it [life].” The heart cannot help but soften at such a sight of surrender. It can be that easy as opening your self up and letting go and exhaling into the very chair that you sit in right now. Can you imagine such a release accompanied by such effortlessness? It is inspiring to be reminded that we do not have to struggle or try so freakin’ hard in life but that we can just fall into it. We can literally, “fall into grace.”
We can fall into Who we are because we house a myriad of God-given gifts. Even when we choose to pretend we are not a Child of God, they are still there. My partner in life constantly reminds me, “There is only plan A,” meaning there can be no plan B. There is only God’s plan because that is all there Is.
“God’s Will does no oppose. It merely is” (ACIM Lesson 166 10:1-2).
When we live this worry-free, worthy of God’s gifts, only plan A, sort of life, it is a beautiful one. It is a life where we are effortlessly in service of others and freely extending our gifts. We extend what we are given because we cannot help but do so. Such a way of life is written all over our face, which only draws others to us in order to find out the secret. And we happily tell them the secret is within. This secret is, “Hakuna Matata.”
“He has shared His joy with you. And now you go to share it with the world” (ACIM Lesson 166 15:7-8).
Today is a day that calls for fewer words and more falling, less thinking and more releasing, as we embody the philosophy that we are entrusted with the gifts of God. In all areas of your life, let go of pretending otherwise. Simply, fall into You. God Wills our happiness, abundance, and love. Let theses blessings and many more pour from within you out to the world. “Can you feel the love…” in that? Hakuna Matata!
