A Course in Miracles: Lesson 182

Lesson 182

I will be still an instant and go home.

Imagine for a moment that you, as you are today, are taking a trip back to the day you were born.  Imagine yourself standing above your own newborn body, looking down upon yourself.  What does this being look like?  What are you wearing?  What is the feeling that lingers around this beautiful baby?

Now, look into the eyes of this being that is new to the world.  This being who still knows of the place in which it came.  This being who knows her purpose here.  This being that appears to be so small in stature yet pervades this powerful, all-knowing, innocent energy that is not yet accustomed to the world.  A moment in which, you as the observer, recognize that this being, which is you, is foreign to this world.

A newborn does not know of the atrocities of the world.  It is not aware of limitations.  It is not aware of what it is like to be unsafe.  It does not even know the meaning of the word.  This light of innocence, as you stand above it, what is she saying to you in the depth of her eyes?  Still connected to Source, what does she want you to know?  This is what we find out today.

“You have no lost your innocence.  It is for this you yearn.  This is your heart’s desire.  This is the voice you hear, and this the call which cannot be denied.  The holy Child remains with you.  His home is yours” (ACIM Lesson 182 12:1-6).

Innocence.  That essence about us that is pure, holy, and untouched, just like a newborn baby.  Some might interchangeably use the term inner child with innocence.  It is that angelic seedling in each of us that is completely defenseless because it knows there is no need for defenses or hate.  It only knows the language of love.  In its divine wisdom it knows that everything is always okay and that it can never be harmed. Is it not interesting that we travel back to this small new born in order to gain wisdom from Source?  Is it not interesting that the child within us holds our inner knowing?

If you have children or have been around them, you know of the inspiring truth that a child can convey.  It is amazing what a child just “knows” before it is conditioned by the world.  A child has the powerful ability to see angels, auras, and to tap into her psychic abilities.  A child can see through the world, past the veil, and straight to truth.  It is truly amazing to witness such heavenly knowing.  What is even more amazing is that this is still our truth, this is still who we are.  The Course has been leading us back to our innocence all along, that angelic seedling that lies within each of us that has been calling out to us our heavenly wisdom.  It is this presence we find in stillness today as we begin to know and trust her once more.  We will come to view the world with the wonderment of a child, in complete defenselessness, knowing that our holiness is untouched.  We shall come to trust the wisdom that lies in our child’s heart.

Our adult hearts, hardened by life, has been searching for something.  We can put a number of identities on what we are searching for: jobs, sex, partners, jewelry, new homes, relationships, etc.  But in the end, what we are searching for is God.  We are searching for the “thing” that ends all searching.  Often our journey of searching occurs unconsciously, however, if you have stumbled upon any spiritual teaching, igniting you to look within, you have awaken to the fact that your way of filling this void is pointless.

“There is no substitute for God” (ACIM Lesson 182 3:6).

Today, we come back to the innocence that leads us to stillness and peace, a place where we remember we are one with God, a place where the void never occurred.  We come back to the knowing we were born with, our connection to Source, and the wisdom that is laden in the depths of our newborn eyes.

“When you are still an instant, when the world recedes from you, when valueless ideas cease to have value in your restless mind, then you will hear His Voice.  So poignantly He calls to you that you will not resist Him longer.  In that instant He will take you to His home, and you will stay with Him in perfect stillness, silent, and at peace, beyond all words, untouched by fear and doubt, sublimely certain that you are at home” (ACIM Lesson 182 8:1-3).

This new born knows of the divine purpose and plan.  This innocence wants to share with you the power that you have within you.  The power you were born with that has never left you.  This new born wants you to be born again.

“This Child is your defenselessness; your strength.  He trust in you.  He came because He knew you would not fail.  He whispers of His home unceasingly to you” (ACIM Lesson 182 7:1-4).

Your innocence wants your trust.  It wants your attention.  Will you answer the call?  Will you recall the holy words spoken to you through your infant eyes?

Perhaps, as you spend time with your inner child, today, pull out a baby picture of yourself.  Place it in front of you and ask this beautiful angel questions.  What does she want you to know?  How does she want to be loved?  What can you do to give her more attention?  Give this angel inside you a voice.  Let her share with you your divine gifts and her wisdom of Home.

Today is a special day as we return to innocence, remembering the knowledge that is written on our infant heart.  Such a sweet, sweet heart it is.  May you nurture and love the time shared in stillness and peace today.  Be still an instant…with your angelic infant.  Namaste.
