A Course in Miracles: Lesson 192

Lesson 192

I have a function God would have me fill.

Once more we are brought back to the requirement for each and every journey, forgiveness.  The element of forgiveness is the compulsory essence of any journey, whether you come to find that through A Course in Miracles, A Course of Love, The Way of Mastery, or any other spiritual text.  Forgiveness ensures we leave no pinky out of heaven and no toe left wading in the crazy pool.  It is not called the concept of “Oneness except for that guy.”  And usually that “guy” is one who appears to have done you wrong in some way, shape, or form.  Thus, we come full circle, again, to explore any areas where have are still withholding forgiveness.

As we walk together notice how this is a function that God would have you fill, not you, or your family, or your colleagues or your life partner.  No one but God.  And not just God but the God that lies in you, the God in whose likeness you were created.  So, by this point in the Course, I’m sure you are getting the necessity of forgiveness.

The idea of forgiveness is man-made but it is our journey to undo what man has made to return to Heaven.  We came for the experience, now it is time to complete it.  It is time to remember our wholeness.

Have you ever wondered who it is that thinks?  Who is it that actually forgives?  Is it your mind?  Your body?  Notice how it seems to be this ephemeral force that urges you to forgive.  Think about how if you did not have the body as your reactive vessel, would you still maintain anger?  Would you have anything to be angry about if you were no longer encased in this apparent body that separated you from another?  Would you still be angry if you had no boundary of a vessel that someone appeared to cross?

“The mind without the body cannot make mistakes” (ACIM Lesson 192 5:1).

It is the body that helps facilitate the belief that something is in need to be forgiven.  If we rested in this sweet space beyond the body we would notice that there is nothing to forgive, there is nothing anyone has done wrong, there is no boundary that has been crossed, there lies only a force of perfection.  This is said to aid you in the process of letting go of any grievances still lingering.  Can you come to that space beyond form and rest in the love of that which is formless?

It is the power in the formless that we are able to change the form.  As we connect to something greater than ourselves we notice the ease and plenty of Heaven.  We know ourselves as whole, holy, and loved, while also seeing our fellow Lights in the same manner.  Meaning, there is truly nothing to forgive, as how could such a beautiful soul of God ever do wrong, even if in form it appears so?  Thus, do we bring the power of the formless into form for the salvation of all.  It is what makes the forgiveness of seemingly impossible grievances, possible.

“Yet God created One Who has the power to translate in form the wholly formless.  What He makes are dreams, but of a kind so close to waking that the light of day already shines in them, and eyes already opening behold the joyful sights their offerings contain” (ACIM Lesson 192 3:5-6).

Without forgiveness, we maintain our status as the jailor and jailee.  We truly imprison no one but merely by thought.  And in the end, who does that thought belong to?  Who is the one thinking the thought?  Lingering here in darkness, do we only breed more fearful thoughts of attack, ensuring our imprisonment.  Thus, it is not only about freeing others, but mostly freeing ourselves.  As you free yourself, you free another.  And to the other, we owe our thanks, as she has been the reminder for our choice for freedom.

“Therefore, hold no one prisoner.  Release instead of bind, for thus are you made free.  The way is simple.  Overtime you feel a stab of anger, realize you hold a sword above your head.  And it will fall or be averted as you choose to be condemned or free.  Thus does each one who seems to tempt you to be angry represent your savior from the prison house of death.  And so you owe him thanks instead of pain” (ACIM Lesson 192 9:1-7).

Begin at home.  Begin with you.  Only you can forgive and only you can release your grip on any vengeful thoughts or apparent grievances.  Trust me, I promise you will enjoy your new holy post as savior, instead of jailor and jailee.  You won’t even miss your former employer, although they will be fully integrated in you with love.

Below are previous lessons that focus on forgiveness.  There are many, as forgiveness is the way Home.  Each lesson reminds us of the importance of seeing our fellow brothers and sisters as ourselves, as the Light of the World.  What we withhold from them, we withhold from ourselves.  Are you not ready for it ALL?  If so, forgive ALL.  Namaste.
