Lesson 227
This is my holy instant of release.
In the text of A Course in Miracles, there is an entire chapter dedicated to The Holy Instant, chapter 15. At the beginning of the chapter it asks us to ponder how long it truly takes us to change our mind, “How long is an instant?” (ACIM Chapter 15 I, 11:1). An instant is all it takes. If it seems to prolong it is only because we are still holding onto our suffering or thought of separation. It truly takes no time at all, as our holiness is purely untouched.
“Time is inconceivable without change, yet holiness does not change. Learn from this instant more than merely that hell does not exist. In this redeeming instant lies Heaven” (ACIM Chapter 15 I, 10:1-3).
The holy instant takes as long as it takes for us to remember Who we are. As previously discussed, it is closer than a breath away. It never holds us at a distance but it is us who hold our holiness at bay. And it is by the miracle of the holy instant that we are back to a Home we never left.
“In the holy instant, in which you see yourself as bright with freedom, you will remember God. For remember Him is to remember freedom” (ACIM Chapter 15 I, 10:7).
Our remembrance is our freedom. We are not bound to this world or its laws. “I am under no law but God’s,” (ACIM Lesson 76) and Her law is our divine happiness and peace. It is Her Will that we live as we were created, as Light. It is Her Will that we are free.
“Father, it is today that I am free, because my will is Yours. I thought to make another will. Yet nothing that I thought apart from You exists. And I am free because I was mistaken, and did not affect my own reality at all by my illusions. Now I give them up, and lay them down before the feet of truth, to be removed forever from my mind. This is my holy instant of release. Father, I know my will is one with Yours” (ACIM Lesson 227 1:1-7).
We have all tried it another way besides the Will of God. We have waited to see what the world would do next. We have waited to see if a better job or lover would come along. And, basically, we waited for anything but ourselves, the One we have truly been waiting for. In our prayer and silence today, we experience, in the holy instant, that the wait is over and that we are, indeed, free. The outer world can do as it wishes, but our holiness can never be taken away. It only requires our remembrance that this and our freedom are so. Here is to Your divine freedom! Namaste.
