A Course in Miracles: Lesson 233

Lesson 233

I give my life to God to guide today.

“Father, I give You all my thoughts today.  I would have none of mine.  In place of them, give me Your Own.  I give You all my acts as well, that I may do Your Will instead of seeking goals which cannot be obtained, and wasting time in vain imaginings.  Today I come to You.  I will step back and merely follow You.  Be You the Guide, and I the follower who questions not the wisdom of the Infinite, nor Love whose tenderness I cannot comprehend, but which is yet Your perfect give to me”

(ACIM Lesson 233 1:1-7).

What areas of your life do you feel a little timid handing over to God?  Is it your thoughts?  Things involving family matters?  Things involving your job?  We are asked, today, “To put our money where our mouth is,” per se, as we freely hand over our life to God.  If we say we desire only the Will of God, well, here is the opportunity to live it.  Yet notice the areas in which you still want to hold onto your control.  These are the areas in which you are still choosing your smallness.  These are those little pinkies left out of Heaven.  God wants everything, not just some things.  What is your readiness and willingness to hand it all over?  Where is the line in the sand where you are telling God, “These things on this side are mine to take care of and those over there are Yours, okay?”

Luckily, Lesson 233 entices us with the experience of freedom, as we abandon all of our questions and the need to exercise our own will.  We can let go of what we think it means to be perfect and just let God shine Her perfection through us.  All striving, straining, and surviving can cease and the thriving of our True Nature, can begin.

At this point in our walk together, the areas we keep from God are so small.  I ask you, today, to reflect on those areas that seem so minute yet their effects are so big.  For example, notice how you think and talk to yourself.  What stories are running in your head when someone offers you a compliment or love?  Are you quick to dismiss it?  Do you doubt what someone has said, believing it to be insincere?  Again, such a small area but God wants to guide these thoughts too.  Your entire being, thoughts, emotions and all, God wants to use to show you Her Divine Will.  She will not compete with any desire you have to stay small.  She kindly waits until you are ready to put that down too.

Sometimes we can catch ourselves saying, “I have given my Will to God but nothing is happening.  I am still in a crappy job, relationship, or situation.”  The latter part of the sentiment is what keeps God’s Will from shining through, that mindset that life is crap because you lack the right job, relationship, or whatever else.  God does not know lack.  And until God known as you is ready to release that too, you cannot hear the Voice of God whispering Her Will to you.  And remember, nothing in the outer world may look different, as that may not be Her Will to do so.  It is our shift in perception that becomes the target.  The miracle that we are not waiting for God to show up but that She has been in front of us, in our jobs, families, encounters, and travels, all along.

Abandon is the word of the day.  We are called to truly abandon all questions and motives.  We even let go of predicting what a future aligned with the Will of God looks like.  I ask you now, what is your level of willingness to live as such?  Are you ready to open up your hands, release your grip on the world, and flow in the Will of God?

“And as we walk together, we will give this day to Him with no reserve at all” (ACIM Lesson 233 2:2).

Relax into God.  Relate to the God you know.   And release your will unto Her.  There is nothing you need to prove to yourself or to the world.  There is only peace and salvation to gain.  Hold no reservations about today’s purpose at all.  Abandon everything but the Voice of God, and pretty soon it will be the only Voice you hear.  The only Voice that guides you.  More importantly, the only Voice you want to follow.  Namaste.
