Lesson 254
Let every voice but God’s be still in me.
“Father, today I would but hear Your Voice. In deepest silence I would come to You, to hear Your Voice and to receive Your Word. I have no prayer but this: I come to You to as You for the truth. And truth is but Your Will, which I would share with You today” (ACIM Lesson 254 1:1-4).
In the silence between our sleep state and awake state, as we come to the awareness of a new day, there is the gentle opportunity to recognize the first thought of ego for the day. If one is very aware as the day begins, one hears the faint whisper of God’s Voice and then loud interjection of ego. Experiment for yourself, often in this soft moment there is the full awareness of the first thought of fear for the day. Perhaps it is about work, or a relationship, or about a poor night’s sleep, or an illness. Whatever the case may be, this is the perfect opportunity to get a taste for this voice and to recognize that it can peacefully pass by, as the focus on the faint whisper, the Voice for God, becomes more desirable.
“Today we let no ego thoughts direct our words or actions. When such thoughts occur, we quietly step back and look at them, and then we let them go” (ACIM Lesson 254 2:1-2).
The moment between sleep and awake is not just an event that occurs first thing in the morning, rather it a metaphor for what is happening within each breath. We walk the fine line between sleep and awake until we make the final choice for remembrance. The Voice that we hear today teaches us to tip that scale to fully live our union.
Awareness is key. Throughout our walk together, we have learned to discern that beautiful Voice that teaches us of Her Will. It is a peaceful Voice that only speaks of love. It does not push, confine, or judge us. In this Voice, do our bodies relax as we welcome pure freedom. We release anything unlike God and abide in Her loving presence and teachings. You need not search for this Voice. Just listen. Namaste.
