A Course in Miracles: Lesson 258

Lesson 258

Let me remember that my goal is God.

“Our goal is but to follow in the way that leads to You.  We have no goal but this.  What could we want but to remember You?  What could we seek but our Identity?”  (ACIM Lesson 258 2:1-4).

At the beginning of our lesson the term, “senseless aims,” is used.  It is a perfect way to describe those little nuances that distract our attention from our one true commitment, to walk with God.  We have journeyed far within the mind and we are down to the subtle of subtle ways in which our vision becomes obscured.  It is important to ask ourselves at this juncture, “What distracts me from God?”

“All that is needed is to train our minds to overlook all little senseless aims, and to remember that our goal is God” (ACIM Lesson 258 1:1)

A Course in Miracles is merely a Course in correcting the mind in order to turn our attention from the, “senseless aims,” to the Truth that is true always.  It is a course in clarifying and experiencing our pure intent to be one with God, “…We have no goal but this (2:1).”  It is a journey in and of itself to remember this small yet significant goal but one worth repeating breath after breath, until the scale is fully tipped towards the awakened life.

“His memory is hidden in our minds, obscured but by our pointless little goals which offer nothing, and do not exist” (ACIM Lesson 258 1:2).

It is often wondered, in becoming a fully awakened and integrated being, in what direction does the scale get tipped?  Within.  Always within.  That is where we find the culmination of our true purpose.  We need look no further than the memory that is within our own minds.  She, our Comforter, has never left us, and in Reality we have never left Her.  We simply chose to forget, looking outside ourselves, but now we are ready to remember and travel no further than towards the Voice within us that is calling us Home.

Your true goal is not a new job, new car, new iPhone, new city to live in, new lover, and any other shiny object to be obtained out in the world.  It is important to remember this as we stand at the brink of a new year.  The mind may want to set “senseless aims,” goals, to obtain by the end of the year, however, take a moment and reflect on this from the standpoint of what the Course calls, miracle-mindedness.  How does our one goal, God, want to express Itself this upcoming year?  In what ways is God calling us to live more peacefully in Her Divine Plan?  What distractions can we let go of that obscure our Holy Vision?  It is good to judiciously plan for what is to come but do it from the pure intention of remembering your desired goal, which truly all we are here to live for and to discover.  It is the only way.  Everything else is just a “senseless aim.”  Namaste.
