Lesson 260
Let me remember God created me.
“Father, I did not make myself, although in my insanity I thought I did. Yet, as Your Thought, I have not left my Source, remaining part of Who created me. Your Son, my Father, calls on You today. Let me remember You created me. Let me remember my Identity. And let my sinlessness arise again before Christ’s vision, through which I would look upon my brothers and myself today” (ACIM Lesson 260 1:1-6).
“Let me remember…,” three words that began each of our last four lessons. Such words also led our steps into Lesson 124, Let me remember I am one with God. Notice how we are not prompted to learn, to memorize, nor theorize. We are simply recalling a familiar truth that already resides in us. As we experience the last lesson in our section on “What is Sin?” we come to remember exactly why “sin” is impossible, because we were created in the likeness of God, which has no opposite.
Our time in stillness, as we commune with the Voice for God, we abide in our true Identity. We recognize that our deepest commitment goes beyond just knowing God, but in remembering that we are God. We no longer look at our brothers and sisters as guilty until proven innocent. Rather we see the angels among us and remember that each is already innocent and that there is no other Identity than this, the innocence of a Child of God. Regardless of whatever expression God choses to take in this world, played out by our brothers and sisters, there is only our innocence and no need to prove such or any need to condemn, either.
As explore our Identity, we abide in the moment of true knowing. We arrive at a place that is wholly familiar because it is Home. There is no other knowledge or schooling needed. If you think about it this way, everything in this life and each identity you have taken on, has only been a remembrance. Whether you wanted to remember you could heal the human body by massage or repair teeth as a dentist or teach little children how to be in this world, you were just recalling a skill that God wanted to try as an expression in human form. If you think back over the knowledge that you have obtained in the various roles you played, didn’t some of the information you memorized seem familiar? Yes, we have had many teachers remind us of certain skills to be exercised but truly any knowledge needed we already had within us. Thankfully we have those teachers among us to help draw the knowledge forth from within.
The remembrance is only possible NOW, where the past and the future meet in this one moment. Everything has alre
ady happened, we are just playing it out in slow motion. That is why we have déjà vu and that is why some skills seem so effortless and familiar. This is just a state of re-collection, where we gather all our identities to come back to the ONE. It is fun, and sometimes not so fun, to remember the different roles we have played, but today we welcome the experience of our deepest desire, to remember we were created by God and in her likeness; therefore, we are God remembering we are God.
A song by Van Morrison comes to mind for today’s lesson, “I’m Not Feeling It Anymore,” which comes from the apropos album titled Hymns to the Silence. In his lyrics Van is disenchanted with the outer world and no longer feeling its allure, recognizing that the only way to true happiness is within. Throughout the song Van Morrison journeys from the illusions of alcohol, success, and money to the simple truth of authenticity. He becomes aware of the roles he has played and the power he has given away. His lyrics, put to a beautiful melody, symbolize the journey back to the One Truth that sets us free.

And all I ever wanted was simply just to be me
All you ever need is the truth
And the truth will set you free”

In one way or another, we have all walked this path of miracles because we were “not feeling [the outer world] anymore,” as Van describes. That feeling is simply our Truth, our Identity, calling us Home. We are not crazy or weird. We just aren’t
falling for the tricks and games of the outer world anymore. Remember our Identity as a Child of God couldn’t be any more sane and normal, albeit not to the outer world, and thank God for that. We abide in the holy fraternity of One. This is what we remember today and always. And how beautiful is it that we can do that through word, song, and silence. Namaste
