Lesson 286
The hush of Heaven holds my heart today.
“Father, how still today! How quietly do all things fall in place! This is the day that has been chosen as the time in which I come to understand the lesson that there is no need that I do anything. In You is every choice already made. In You has every conflict been resolved. In You is everything I hope to find already given me. Your peace is mine. My heart is quiet, and my mind at rest. Your Love is Heaven, and Your Love is Mine” (ACIM Lesson 286 1:1-9).
This morning I was ascending the stairwell in the building in which I live. I use the word “ascending” on purpose because as I was climbing step by step up this vertical maze that has no rhyme or reason to its small switchbacks after a varied number of steps, I realized that all morning my mind had been searching for an image that I deemed to be a “perfect life.” Where would I live, what would I be doing, if I lived a peaceful and harmonious life? As I physically ascended, my consciousness finally caught up as the Holy Spirit whispered, “Your life is already all that you seek. You are just chasing the carrot again.” And I was. It was subtle but my mantra this morning was singing at a low volume the “When This, Then That,” tune.
As I reached the floor of my living space, I breathed a deep breath. Not because I needed it from climbing the stairs but because I realized that, “I need do nothing.” What a sigh of relief! I have nothing to strive for. I lack nothing. Everything is given me, and peace, indeed, reigns, as long as I choose so. Life is peaceful and harmonious.
At the top of the stairs, the hush of Heaven came over me: a hush that is available at any moment, from silent rooms to crowded event halls. This hush, the kiss of the Holy Spirit, arises from our aligned ascension, as we step onto the bridge of remembrance, stepping over the hustle and bustle of the small mind and joining with the Hand who holds our Hearts, forever. In this hush, we are reminded that everything is in its perfect place and that all issues are resolved. We can be at peace. We can rest.
Today, may you, in your own unique way, feel the sweet hush of Heaven, understanding that where you truly abide needs no effort whatsoever. You need not climb any stairwells. You can go straight to the top! Just follow your heart, rising above any insane mantras, and feel how you are always held in the warmest of embraces. Namaste.
