Lesson 364
This holy instant would I give to You.
Be You in charge.
For I would follow You, certain that Your direction gives me peace.
“And if I need a word to help me, He will give it to me. If I need a thought, that will He also give. And if I need but stillness and a tranquil, open mind, these are the gifts I will receive of Him. He is in charge by my request. And He will hear and answer me, because He speaks for God my Father and His holy Son” (ACIM Lesson 361 1:1-5).
When learning another language, I have often wondered what makes a word remain in one’s memory and others not. For example, I could write a word 100 times, I could repeat it aloud over and over, and still I will not retain it. It is not because there is a lack of desire or willingness nor any lack of usefulness of the word, as in most cases it is a word I could particularly use often, yet for some reason the word will just not stick. It floats on by to be remembered another day, perhaps, when I am at a different level of readiness and awareness, so as to fully experience it more. Or perhaps the word isn’t as useful to my experience as I believe and the space it would take in my brain is best used in another capacity for the time being. Or thirdly, this whole routine and expense of energy is more useful as a mirror, bringing to my awareness how much I think I am still in control, reminding me of the One Who is really in charge of my words and how they are to be used. It is not up to me. While I may believe that something would serve a purpose and be useful in life, the One in charge may know otherwise. This is a simple and soft example but its message is deep.
God knows of our readiness and that is what makes our perfection. When we speak, God places the right word on the tongue. When we move the body, God alights each step with her Grace. And when we abide with another, God fills our presence so as to create the perfect interaction with our fellow brothers and sisters. Of this, we can be certain. In this, can we be at peace.
Control is contraction and trust is expansion. When we go beyond words and rest in that space that can only be experienced, we trust that our walk is purposeful and holy perfect. We need not know the reason for anything but can trust in its holy dedication. Abiding in such Presence assures that we will not get taken away by the wave of uncertainty but rather that will we abide in the holy waters of peace. The journey of life is much better experienced guided than with the effort of trying to be ultimate guide.
Throughout your holy encounters today, release into the expansiveness of the One that flows through you and witness the perfection of the thoughts, words, and deeds that she places upon your awareness. Relinquish the role of guide and feel the peace of Her guidance. In this spaciousness, you are Home. Namaste.
