A Course in Miracles: Lesson 50

Lesson 50

I am sustained by the Love of God.

To be sustained means to be strengthened or supported mentally or physically. Synonyms for the word “sustain” are: comfort, help, assist, encourage, succor, support, carry, cheer up, hearten, give strength to, and buoy up. I say the definition and synonyms in case the word “sustain” doesn’t resonate with you, awakening you to the truth that the Love of God always, completely, undoubtedly comforts you. You Are Enough! We do not hear that enough so I shall say it again…

You Are Enough!!!

…As you are, as is, with no improvements, no altered habits, no extra money, no less of money, with just that hair color, with no hair at all, with that job, that apartment, that lover, that non-lover, where you live, and where you are…right…now.

Yesterday began our glimpse into how this could be so. In Lesson 49 we dove under the waves of distractions in the world to reach the peace and stillness of God. As we ventured within we saw that what we have been desiring is neither of the noisy world nor anything it can provide. Did just not those few moments yesterday sustain you in some way? Did you not feel the peaceful shift that came from that which was not outside of you but within?

“It will transport you into a state of mind that nothing can threaten, nothing can disturb, and where nothing can intrude upon the eternal calm of the Son of God (ACIM Lesson 50- 3:3)”

Today we are transported ever deeper to a place that always offers pure peace and comfort. Truly, I can think of no better way to describe it than “feeling sustained.” There is no need to fret or worry or to be in control. Whatever may happen around you, it will all work out because the Love of God sustains you.

There are many variations of this phrase that seem to run around mainstream:

“God wants to you to thrive, not just survive.”

“If God is for you, who can be against you.”

“This too shall pass.”

“Everything happens for a reason.”

These variations are ways of saying that everything is always okay because you are fully sustained by the Love of God. You do not need to make sure it is in your purse or an app in your phone or worry that you will leave home without it. There is nothing you need to do to be part of this Love, this sustaining Love where you need or want for nothing more. Can you imagine not feeling a sense of lack? Can you imagine searching no more?

“Here is the answer to every problem that will confront you, today and tomorrow and throughout time. In this world, you believe you are sustained by everything but God (ACIM Lesson 50 1:1-2).”

A few days ago I mentioned the life of Breatharians who are sustained not by consuming food but by prana, life force energy. There are also those who find themselves in extreme circumstances with an expected injury out in nature, those humbled by natural catastrophes, and other various unexpected conditions that survive by the same vital force that lies within us. Our bodies are magnificent and magical providing the most astounding vessel of resilience.

I recently saw an article about the musician Prince as he discussed how often people had to remind him to eat and drink water. He found that his music and creativity would sustain him in so many ways that often basic human needs would go amiss. And what is vital force but pure creative energy from our Creator?

Breatharians to natural catastrophes to Prince may seem like extreme cases but I mention them to show how from the seemingly big to the little, we are all sustained by this eternal life force presence that comforts us. With such an embrace what is there to need, to worry about, or to fret over? Those little things we worry about in our daily lives from moment to moment are just smoke and mirrors of the Love that lies within us that is capable of quieting our hearts and minds.

“Do not put your faith in the worthless. It will not sustain you (ACIM Lesson 50 2:4-5).”

Today we are asked to go deeper, to go deeper and trust. Once more it is your personal experience how you witness the Divine arrive at the doorstep of your heart. Have you not searched high and low outside yourself long enough? Come Home to that which is eternal.

“Put all your faith in the Love of God within you; eternal, changeless and forever unfailing (ACIM Lesson 50 4:3).”

“Such is the Kingdom of Heaven. Such is the resting place where your Father has placed you forever (ACIM Lesson 50 5:4-5).”

As you have a sip of water taste how the Love of God sustains you. As you listen to music, hear how the Love of God sustains you. As you smell the sweetness of life, inhale the Love of God that sustains you. As you see the world happen around you, witness how the Love of God sustains you. And as you sit in silence during your practice periods, feel how the Love of God sustains you.

Go beyond lip service to the Ultimate Truth that lays inside of you and that is being birthed in each moment. Commit to implementation and integration. You are ready. Go beyond. Celebrate this love that washes over you and that sustains you, always and in all ways.

Namaste.
