Lesson 91
Miracles are seen in light.
Welcome back from Review II. As we took time to reflect even deeper on Lessons 61 – 80, where themes ranged from forgiveness to recognizing how our grievances obstruct us from seeing the light and the truth of miracles, our awareness was heightened to the fact that there is no place God is not. We are always part of the “awakening conversation” with our Creator, albeit with pictures, bumper stickers, conversations with others, music, movies, the shapes of the clouds in the sky, etc. We are always part of the remembrance that we are Light. If we think that Source is not present, we are not paying attention.
Today’s lesson is a continuation in our walk of awareness. As God is always present, so is the miracle:
“The miracle is always there” (ACIM Lesson 91 1:4).
Miracles are in each moment. That is where they can be found. Right here. Right now. The lyrics for the song Right Now by Van Halen are a perfect tribute to this part of today’s lesson.

Catch a magic moment, do it
Right here and now
It means everything
This magic moment is where we find the miracle. All that is needed is the vision to see it, the awareness, and nothing more. Another spiritual teaching, The Way of Mastery, speaks of such a moment as being “the width of a breath away.” A shift in perception is just that, so close that it is a breath away. Yet one must know that it is possible and see the light of such a possibility.
It is true that it can be tough to see the light when darkness seems to be prevailing over us. Sometimes we do get to that space where darkness appears to be the only option we are worthy off or even offered. We can feel so low that it seems impossible to get out of the cycle we are in. It is easy to see how the body and small mind can believe this is true, as the energy of darkness gives the body a heavy, dense feeling, which can feel impenetrable. It is truly a dark place to be. Even when we are blessed with loved ones who try to help us to see the light, still we don’t seem to see it and find it hard to believe. Which in itself is a lesson because only we can see the light, others cannot see it for us. We are our only saviors; others can only hold the space for us to go through that process.
“To be told that what you do not see is there sounds like insanity. It is very difficult to become convinced that it is insanity not to see what is there, and to see what is nowhere instead. You do not doubt that the body’s eyes can see. You do not doubt the images they show you are reality. Your faith lies in the darkness, not the light. How can this be reversed? For you it is impossible but you are not alone in this” (ACIM Lesson 91 3:1-7).
When we find ourselves in that space of darkness, the option of light does seem insane. Yet it is our belief in darkness that is the insane choice, the illusion. If you recall from Lesson 64, “Yet we have learned that the Holy Spirit has another use for all the illusions you have made, and therefore He sees another purpose in them” (2:2). Our bodies were designed perfectly to aid in the illusion of separation or to aid in the awakening. When the body feels so dense with dark energy, the illusion of separation does seem real. That feeling plays right into the perception of the physical eyes that we are all separate, suffering, and alone. Yet when we let the Holy Spirit use our body for the remembrance we start to see the insanity of the body. We start to understand that what we truly are is something greater that encases the physical body, that feeds the physical body, that directs the physical body. What we once thought was our master, becomes the servant.
“Your efforts, however little they maybe, have strong support. Did you but realize how great this strength, your doubts would vanish” (ACIM Lesson 91 4:1-2).
All it takes is a little willingness to come out of the darkness. It does not take brute strength but actually the softness of surrender. Belief in the body makes us assume that we need tough, hard, hell or high water strength. But that is just force. That is just giving away energy, our power. Today, we welcome our real essence of strength, that powerful circular energy that feeds our body from our soul body, which encases the physical body, to the depths of the heart center back to the soul body. This is where our Truth lies. This is where our Truth can be lived. This is where we step out of the darkness and into the light to be shown the miracles that surround us.
Today’s lesson offers powerful statements for how we may correct mistaken thoughts and identities with the body, in order to welcome miracle-mindedness:
“I am not weak but strong.
I am not helpless, but all powerful.
I am not limited, but unlimited.
I am not doubtful, but certain.
I am not an illusion, but reality.
I cannot see in darkness, but in light”
(ACIM Lesson 91 8:4-9).
How does it feel in your body when you take in these statements? When you take in such truth? Does this not lift the body…just a little? Do you not start to feel how you abide in a more soulful, expanded space beyond the physical form? Statements like these create the miracle to shift denseness to light. It is as though we are being lifted out of our shell and in many ways we are.
“Remember that all sense of weakness is associated with the belief you are a body, a belief that is mistake and deserves no faith. Try to remove your faith from it, if only for a moment” (ACIM Lesson 91 9:3-4).
There is only so much we can do with, and for, our physical body until we will be called to go deeper within ourselves. A Course in Miracles consistently walks us in that direction. Today, we walk in a different flow, a flow that carries our footsteps effortlessly, a flow that does not need our action steps but rather our surrender.
It is all about that little bit of willingness. Just that little bit of willingness to see that a new entrée, miracles and light, are a choice on the buffet. It is similar to driving down the street you always have taken on the way to work, when all the sudden you notice a shop you had never seen before but then realize it had been there for years. You don’t have to walk into the shop, although it is tempting, but you just know that it is there, now, in your line of awareness. That is all Source asks. That is all Source needs for miracles to transpire.
I honor the steps your soul body takes today. As we close, I leave you with the video for Van Halen’s Right Now. This is another example of how the Awakening Conversation is always happening around us. The reminders that miracles are among us are infinite. Although from the 90’s, this video is still relevant in our walk of awareness and awakening, leading us back to magic moment of miracles, Right Now.
Where are you, right now? Who are you, right now? What are you, right now? It Is Everything. It is the Magic Moment. Right Here. Right Now….beyond the body, your Real Being lies.
