Lesson 92
Miracles are seen in the light, and light and strength are one.
We have been walking towards the connection between light and strength since Lesson 73, I will there be light, where we were shown the will we shared with God.
“The will you share with God has all the power of creation in it (ACIM Lesson 73 1:3).
God wills there be light and in light we find the strength of all creation. Thus, light and strength are directly correlated with one another, leaving the opposite, darkness correlating with weakness. Let us clarify that when we talk of strength we are not discussing how many push-ups or sit-ups you can do, nor how much you bench press, nor how much you can squat, nor how many miles you can endure while running or walking. All of those physical activities are wonderful and helpful to keep our vessel vital as a channel of God, but it is not the strength of creation we are referring to. We are talking about a strength that is much deeper than the physical level. A strength that comes from within. A strength that lights up our auric field. It is physically unseen to the naked eye yet deeply felt.
We have worked on letting go of grievances and forgiving others and ourselves and we have seen that all problems are already solved. Yet today, we look more closely at what we are still hanging on to, our idea that we have these pesky weaknesses. A quote from Richard Back states,
“Argue for your limitations, and sure enough they’re yours.”
We have given all our power to our weaknesses, giving ourselves limitations, creating a veil that we call our limited and small lives. This vision is seen through the body’s eyes, which only see separation and fear. Yet this is not who we are. Yes, we have been fighting for this misidentification of smallness but it actually takes more hard work to stay small, weak, and limited than it does to be Who and What You Are. You actually deplete yourself of energy by resisting the fact you were created in the image of God. Because we have lived this way so long, it has become a habit and comfortable, which leads us to fearing what could be on the other side. It also leads us to thinking that we must travel a vast distance to get to the light. Yet you would not be reading these words or reading A Course in Miracles if you weren’t dying to know there was another way to live and knowing that this Truth is somehow closer than the body-mind would have you believe.
“Strength is the truth about you; weakness is an idol falsely worshipped and adored that strength may be dispelled, and darkness rule where God appointed that there should be light” (ACIM Lesson 92 4:7).
Today, we disengage from our mistaken idol and align with the will of God. We step aside from our “so-called” weaknesses to be shown the light and our natural, eternal strength. As we step into real strength, we realize that playing small benefits no one while real strength benefits all. Claiming our Higher Selves only creates more peace, joy, love, grace, forgiveness, and goodness in the world. While claiming our weaknesses have only led us to a guessing game in life, as the ego always presents us with this up and down battle. Yet, light and strength have no need to engage in such foolishness, as they are constant, ever nourishing and replenishing. Light and strength have no need to prove themselves, abiding in their eternal presence is enough.
“The light of strength is constant, sure as love, forever glad to give itself away, because it cannot give but to self. No one can ask in vain to share its sight, and none who enters its abode can leave without a miracle before his eyes, and strength and light abiding in his heart” (ACIM Lesson 92 1:1-2).
Strength and light are contagious and, to be honest, way more alluring than our perceived smallness. Today, we are invited to give up fighting for our limitations. We are given the opportunity to be graced with the ease of the strength of all creation. The strength to see the world and ourselves as we truly are, as Light.
“Strength overlooks these things by seeing past appearances. It keeps its steady gaze upon the light hat lies beyond them. It unites with light, of which it is a part. It sees itself. ” (ACIM Lesson 92 4:1-5).
This passage from today’s lesson calls us back to a concept from one of our first lessons, believing is seeing. Knowing and believing in the light and strength within, we are then graced with that reflection in the world. Although there may still be suffering, the Sacred Sight we are given through strength reveals the light in everything, even in what seems to be “bad,” recognizing that [We] do not know what anything is for (Lesson 25), only that it is somehow useful for the salvation of all.
Enjoy the peace that is offered in our two practice periods today. As we step out of our perceived weaknesses, we create more space to be shown the light. We are less of who we thought we were and more of who were are created to be. There is no effort on your part but to show up and be shown. It all comes back to that little bit of willingness.
In the book Warrior of the Light, Paulo Coelho describes many of the lessons one learns while she or he journeys towards the light. One that pertains to our walk together today is as follows:
“The Warrior of the Light has learned that it is best to follow the light.
He has behaved treacherously, he has lied, he has strayed from the path, he has courted darkness and everything was fine, as if nothing had happened.
Then an abyss suddenly opens up. Once can take a thousand steps in safety, but a single step too many can put an end to everything. The Warrior stops before he destroys himself.
When he makes that decision, he hears four comments:
“You always do the wrong thing. You’re too old to change. You’re no good. You don’t deserve it.”
He looks up at the sky. And a voice says: “My dear, everyone makes mistakes. You’re forgiven, but I cannot force that forgiveness on you. It’s your choice.”
The true Warrior of the Light accepts that forgiveness” (57).
We are called to step out of our destructive cycle of weaknesses and make the choice that our soul is worthy of such love, strength, and light. We have done nothing wrong; we have just been playing small too long. It is time to claim our inheritance of Light. And all it is, is a choice, the rest is already done for us.
I wish you many blessings as you truly walk in miracles today; miracles that only the light and strength within you can reveal as you align with the will of God. Namaste.
