Lesson 324
I merely follow, for I would not lead.
Father, You are the One Who gave the plan for my salvation to me. You have set the way I am to go, the role to take, and every step in my appointed path. I cannot lose the way. I can but choose to wander off a while, and then return. Your loving Voice will always call me back, and guide my feet aright. My brothers all can follow in the way I lead them. Yet I merely follow in the way to You, as You direct me and would have me go” (ACIM Lesson 324 1:1-7).
Today’s lesson speaks of the sweet simplicity of the journey. The Way in which God leads is not found in the past or the future, or in our thoughts, questions, and planning. Any such madness speaks to the illusion of our sense of control over the journey Home. It is also another means in which we place ourselves as stumbling blocks and resistance in our Walk with God. The true key to getting out of own way is held in the second word in today’s statement, “Merely.” Such a word is the essence to the ease in which we are called.
If you Google the definition for, Merely, you will find it means, ” only, purely, solely, simply, just, but.” In allowing God to lead, we solely (soul-y) follow, we simply follow, we purely follow,…we ONLY follow. It is that simple. We need do nothing else. The Way has been set and our outcome secure. We need do nothing but rest in the Hands of God. We need do nothing but relax, release, and relate to the arms that hold us.
“So let us follow One Who knows the way. We need not tarry, and we cannot stray except an instant from His loving Hand. We walk together, for we follow Him. And it is He Who makes the ending sure, and guarantees a safe returning home” (ACIM Lesson 324 2:1-4).
In accordance with today’s statement, let us recall two previous lessons that have paved the way for deepening our humble steps:
I will step back and let Him lead the way.
I place the future in the Hand’s of God.
We are not being introduced to anything new. We are merely invited to see if there are still any areas where we are not allowing God to lead. Today, let us humbly step out of our own way and allow God to show us that Her Way is indeed certain, secure, and full of love. And where is this found? In the very breath you breathe in this very moment. Everything in your path is already taken care of and perfectly woven with God’s signature and divinity. You need but only live the Truth that everything is profoundly okay: it has been okay, it will be okay, and it is always okay, for you are a Child of God and Her Way is certain and sure, if but only, merely, solely (soul-y), simply, purely, you follow and let Her lead. Namaste.
